Pros: First of all the build quality is great. It runs very quietly, even while playing games it isn't too loud. I couldn't find anything with this hardware at such a low price, so i think its a pretty good deal
Cons: There is some bloatware but nothing hard to get rid of
Overall Review: ordered monday night, received wednesday morning with free shipping, cant beat that
Pros: This laptop is the best that I have owned. This is coming from an A+ certified college computer nerd who deals with computers as a job and a hobby.
*The Intel i5 with turbo boost will do its job!
*Nvidia Graphics will process the big programs! (Skyrim, Adobe After Effects, etc.)
*Stays relatively cool on your lap, even when Turbo-boosting and running the Nvidia graphics card!
*Good form factor (No ultrabook, but I am happy with it for $600)
*AWESOME BATTERY LIFE! - Depending on what you are doing, I can get 4-8.5 hours out of it!
Now, I have put a new solid state drive in it, which helped show how truly fast this thing is capable of. I have run Windows 7, Ubuntu and even the Consumer Preview of Windows 8 on it, and this thing is a champ! The only issue is that with the Nvida optimus technology, the Ubuntu battery life sucks because there is no way to switch the card off. (unless you get geeky and use a program called "bumblebee"
Cons: The hard drive speed is not the greatest, but that is in the description (5400 RPMs are slower than 7200RPMs or solid state drives). That is really the only complaint.
I threw a 120GB Solid state drive in it, and it boots and loads programs in the blink of an eye. It also helps out my battery life having a SSD too ;)
Overall Review: Asus is now my favorite computer company, I have bought their motherboards for 2 desktop builds, and this awesome Laptop and have been impressed every time.
Pros: -Dedicated nvidia graphics card - 540m (see other thoughts)
-intel core i5 dual core CPU (very fast)
-USB 3.0 is super fast
- Longevity of use: As long as you don't smother it to make it overheat, this laptop will work for the gamer and student for a long time.
- Relatively light
- Does not need to be on life support - on the go usage on power saving modes grant me 4-6 hours of life.
- Easy graphics card switching. The Intel HD graphics are awful if you accidentally run a game with it - but is more than capable of handling the display and flash games, etc. You can set each program to run with a different card, and I have had no trouble at all with the nVidia card in games (i.e. it doesn't switch back and forth, causing a crash)
- The other reviews are dead on: the bloatware is scarce , easy to remove, but also useful if you like to keep it on.
Cons: Hardly cons, but:
-Display has a lower resolution than I would have wanted (a wacky 1366 x 768)
-If you're going to be using this as a dedicated gaming laptop (6+hr sessions) I highly recommend a solid cooling pad.
Overall Review: I play FFXIV, type up papers, drag it to school and back, and watch videos on this laptop. Basically, I live on it. All of this went into the picking process. The huge issue with me is the video card: a decent one was necessary. A 540m is more than capable of handling the newest graphic-intensive games out there.
Pros: -Processor is powerful. idles around 45*C.
-Ice cool palm rest is pretty awesome.
-this is a pretty thin machine. about 1" thick closed. very sleek and good looking. finish is tough and looks good also.
-Comes with a little bit of bloatware, but I found some of the ASUS programs to be actually kinda neat.
-keyboard is really good quality and types nice, fast, and smooth.
-USB 3.0 Port works good.
-Lithium Ion Battery is nice, stays charged for a long time if you know how to properly manage power settings.
-Lid opens up very smoothly, compared to the HP that I have.
-Big vent on the left side, pushes alot of air.
-Altec Lansing speakers work well. Laptop speakers nonetheless.
Cons: -Hard drive is slow, even after removing bloatware, this takes a little while to start up and get going. Thinking about getting a little 90 GB SSD, as you can sometimes find a good deal with a rebate.
-Touch pad is a little iffy, I don't really like it, maybe in time I will get used to it, but I have used better touch pads.
-Odd location for the charging port. Not really a big issue though
-No button to turn the wireless on and off.
-Charger gets really hot when charging from dead to full. The charger also has an insanely bright blue light. Gotta cover it up if you like a dark room to sleep in.
Overall Review: -Haven't tested the graphics out yet, read the other reviews.
- Haven't tested the webcam out either.
-very happy with this laptop, I bought it to use at college and also to use for playing games if I ever wanted to. From what I understand it does well though, so I am not worried about it. The HDMI out to watch movies on the big TV was a must for me. Overall, very happy with this laptop. I got a good price and a great machine.
Pros: Very nice machine. Call of Duty: Black Ops is very playable on medium settings, D&D Online also plays smoothly on medium settings, SWTOR as well. L4D2 plays extremely smooth. Plenty of RAM to multitask with and i5 for this machine brings it all together. Dedicated 1GB GPU is a must for any PC you want to play games on. Stay away from integrated no matter how good it looks.
Cons: The perfect addition to this machine would be a SSD. As with all conventional hard drives, they tend to slow with time no matter how much you defrag them.
Overall Review: I have a desktop PC I built for gaming. Plays all the new titles. Bought this machine for my daughter to play some less powerful games on but was impressed with it's performance. Now when I go visit friends I bring this laptop to game on instead of my entire rig. lol.
Pros: This is by far the best laptop I have ever owned or used, and for the price, you can't beat it. I spent 2 full weekends shopping at every single store nearby to find a laptop, and none of them came close to this ASUS. The graphics card is awesome, 2.4ghz processor is super fast; couldn't ask for more. The keyboard is awesome as well. Its very sturdy and will last for years. I would recommend this laptop to anyone and everyone. ASUS wont do you wrong!!!
Cons: None so far
Pros: The laptop itself is wonderful. I booted up Star Wars The Old Republic and was blown away that this game can pretty much handle it all on high settings, way better than my last laptop. The key pad is different, and takes some getting used to. Easy start up, runs smooth. Slick design, very quiet, doesn't get close to as hot as my last laptop. And the shipping was very fast (within 3 days).
Cons: The fans for the IceCool pad make a few noises here and there, yet I'm not hearing them anymore. I'm having issues with the AC adapter! When on high performance or gaming mode, when I'm browsing, I can hear the adapter emit the buzz sound when scrolling. It could just be that the wires inside weren't glued down properly, or even my own outlets at my house. Been reading about this and some say a small hum is normal, yet a strange sound could be a minor defect, and although it may run well for 6 months, could be a detection of early failure and could potential cause harm to the laptop. SO I'm going to contact newegg/asus and ask for a new one.
Pros: great machine. Intel wireless N 100 module. Well shielded (foil shielding internally). serviceable laptop (memory and hard disc easily accessible for upgrades). Highly recommended, great laptop value.
Cons: Wireless LED appears to work only after enabling/disabling with function keystrokes when booted into Window 7, firmware upgrade had no effect on issue. Not all Asus listed drivers are best choice for Win7 Pro (downloaded wireless N drivers from Intel)
Overall Review: replaced HDD with Crucial M4 128GB SSD (# N82E16820148442), resulting performance excellent with Windows 7 Professional. Purchased for $650, Newegg raised price $100 one week later. Laptop is listed alternately on model # tag as A53 and "K53" at Asus site. Available drivers may not match actual hardware (as per output of "lshw" using Linux liveCD to generate list of actual hardware by querying the machine). All hardware drivers for Win7 functioning following downloads at Asus and/or other sites (Nvidia, Intel).
