Do the leds fail?

They use a different design than the previous model, which was the one with failing Backlights. I filed an RMA for my first gen model and they'd discontinued it for that reason, replacing it with this.

I haven't owned one long enough to know for sure (I bought right at release) if it's been fixed, but that's what they're saying. Has a long warranty regardless.

Question 2

Does the firmware and software still have issues?  I really don't want some meaningless answer (beat around the bush / run around) from Corsair, because stringing me alone to sell a bad product means my money will go else wear from now on.

It's now March of 2015 what should I be expecting If I chose to purchase this?  A solid product from all angles or still a keyboard with loads of software issues?

Yes there are still issues. I will admit, it has gotten much better though. I am on windows 8.1 64 bit and use usb 3.0 to connect the keyboard (not sure if this is relevant, but just in case). The lighting is still slow to start up, it is the default lighting when I power up my computer, then after I get to my desktop my custom profile lighting starts. There is an issue with the steam client, when I start it the lighting freezes, I can restart the keyboard lighting by changing the poling switch on the back, this has been a problem for a lot of people for a long time. Occasionally the profile will be switched to a different profile, this one is rare and it is probably a software conflict, but it is still annoying.

That being said, I am still happy with my purchase, the hardware is phenomenal and yes, the software is wonky, but allows for so much customization.

Question 3

Is this the true k70 with the RGB leds that do the rainbow animation?

Yes, it has numerous examples and downloadable tricks on the interweb. I use only the red and white colors (white for WASD and the arrow keys). I did however play with the utility to see the other things it will do. I also bought the red O-ring switch dampeners and installed them on most of the keys but found I do not mind the click so not all are installed.

I've heard that it is possible to remove the horrible logo from this beauty of a keyboard, has anyone actually done it and would recommend it?

You could probably cut it out with a box cutter. However I would recommend it, the only time I notice the tramp stamp is when someone reminds me of it and any replacement you come up for it will probably end up looking worse. If it really bothers you cover it with a small piece of electric tape.

If I plug this into a USB 3.0 do I need to connect the second USB to power the keyboard as well?

No you do not. The USB 3 cord alone has enough power to run the keyboard alone. If you have no 3.0 ports available then you would need to use two USB 2.0 (one for each cable) to power and run the keyboard. Just be sure to plug in the 3.0 cord with the small logo on it to the 3.0 port.

Do this have a USB pass through like on the non-RGB K70? I didn't see it in the picture and I was wondering if they relocated it.

No there is no usb pass through. There will be on the strafe rgb from Corsair, but none on the k70 rgb.

No, this keyboard does not have a USB or any other pass-throughs.

Question 9

Does this come with textured keys {1 - 6, wsad} like my current K70 MX?
Can I order separately, meaning to keys remove the same and as easily?

no textured keys.  replacement is easy and  the keys can be  obtained on the corsair site.

Question 10

Does Corsair's software need to be running in order for the lighting to function, or is it handled solely within the keyboard once configured?

It seems to need to be running all the time for custom profiles. In fact, on reboot my lighting profile won't even load until the software is started.

Also note that we've encountered cases where their client actually interferes with certain games causing them to freeze. Launching with the Corsair Utility Engine disabled resolved the issue.
