Question 1

What does this unit connect to?  I see the mini jack and two plugs in the picture.  Do you have to route the cord outside of the computer and into the external sound card jack in back?

It's been a while since I installed it; hope my memory serves.  I believe it has a pass-through cable that goes out through a slot cover and plugs in the back of the computer to your audio out or speaker jack.  There's a slot cover with a wire running through it and a black grommet around the wire, I believe.

My unit works fine, no problems at all.  It's loud enough for normal use and frees up a lot of space which would otherwise be occupied by speakers.  I don't know if you'd want it to play music at full blast, but I believe it's fine for most uses.  If you're installing in a case with tool-less drive bays, you may have to jerry-rig something so you can screw the drive in tight.

What is the power draw of this unit?

DC input 12 volt GND 5 vollt. Is on the back of the unit. I can't find the documemtation but I recall it being 2watt. It actually sounds better than these numbers would indicate. I hope this helps.
