Is there a way that you can check for how much padding if any is on the bottom? Is there a thin or some padding on the bottom?

There is a 1/4 to 3/8" foam pad and a thin plastic piece on the bottom. Depending on the size, weight, placement of the computer in the bag or computer sleeve, the computer may also have a gap between the compartment and the bottom of the backpack. I typically carry a 15" Lenovo and a tablet in the case when I travel.
