My guess is only the HP models it was designed for. I didn't need to mount it for my use, only wedge it behind a wall mounted display that did not have any speakers. Sorry this isn't much help.

I want to mount a speaker to my monitor. I have an HP L1706. Will this product mount? If so, how does it mount?

I have a Dell monitor - there are tab-type mounts on the back-side of my monitor that are kind of box-shaped. The speaker bar will slide right into those tabs. Even though the monitor is a Dell, these tabs must be universally sized so that the HP speaker bar is an absolute perfect fit. I couldn't be more pleased with this speaker bar.

Is the Item plug and play with most computers?

It is plug and play with my computer - I had absolutely no problems with drivers. The speaker bar functioned correctly upon first installing it. That was with Windows 7. I have now upgraded to Windows 10 and it works great with 10 also. I have never regretted buying it because it not only sounds great, but freed-up lots of desk space when I threw away those old speakers.

is this an additional speaker? will it work for my flat panel tv? will it hook up to an Audio Optical out connector?

This is used with existing monitor (17" for me) and plugs to Sound Out in back of CPU -it replaces desktop speaker. It is OK for sound, but will not provide extraordinary experience. Speakers are less powerful than a standard TV. What you want for a flat-panel TV is a SOUNDBAR, it costs more and has deep bass response. This has poor bass. A soundbar also usually connects with digital audio cable to back of TV, not a headphone jack.

how is this speaker connected to the tv?

The audio output from the TV will hookup to the sound bar either by Audio line level ( RCA  - White / Red) or MP5 (3.5mm) input. This should work out either way.

Will this speak mount on IBM, Lenovo and/or Dell monitors (we have a variety in our office) and how many speakers are there, 1 or 2?  I'm looking for a single speaker bar.

We have five of these speaker bars in our office.  When I look at the backside of our HP monitors, they have been specifically designed for this speaker bar to snap into place. When I look at the three Dell monitors we have in our office to see if this speaker bar would attach to them, I can see they have not been designed to accept this speaker bar.  There is nothing on the back of Dell monitors for the speaker bar to clip to.  Based upon what I am looking at, this speaker bar would only attach to a monitor that was specifically designed to accept it.

To answer your other question, the "Speaker Bar System" is just one single speaker bar.
