Is the actual unit 19" wide without including the mounting brackets? Or is it 19" wide including the mounting brackets?

The case is 19" wide, the mounting brackets are mounted permanently so if you slide into a 19" rack the holes line up on the rack. The only thing I missed was the back plane slots are side ways and I ended up buying cables to use expansion cards. I have 2 NICS and a RAID card so I ended up buying PCI(M)-PCI(F) cable and PCIx(M)-PCIX(F) cables to use the cards. I have 4 cases by this company and I love them.

Question 3

Some people reviewing this item said that they used a riser RIBBON instead of a riser CARD.  If one uses a ribbon, what mechanism/attachment in the case supports the weight of the card, especially heavier ones like a graphics card? Thanks.

First of all, you must make sure your video card is not too long such that it runs into the power supply. I have used dozens of these cases over the years (probably around 30) with many different video cards. Some of the cases already have an alternate set of side fasteners to permit the aluminum horizontal bar to move forward (later boxes I have had to drill the case for two holes). I fabricate an oak wood block to set into the grove of the aluminum bar and a slot facing the trailing edge of the video card. One #6 wood screw through the aluminum bar into the oak block ultimately provides support on the opposite end. A few years ago I was using pine but found they would break from vibrations during shipping. Some video cards have thicker chips at the very end and I have had to make the slot wider to accommodate them.
