Where do the intake fans get air from? It looks like the front has no vents?

There is space between the striped face of the chassis and where the fans are located near the front which allows for ventilation and air flow from outside, in.  I purchased the case a while back but haven't actually used it yet, but if you take a flashlight and shine it on the front at an angle you can see the chassis/fans behind it.  It looks like it would be sufficient at cooling a 2u system, but if your unsure, maybe check out the D-214-MATX, same style with different face.

Does it come with a rail kit?

No, the rail kit is sold separately. I had no need for a rail kit. The case is light enough and the front is more than strong enough to hold it to the rack. So if you don't have a need to slide it in and out on the rack, you won't need a rail kit.

Question 3

Is this really a microATX? I just received mine and it seems huge. Wanted to make sure before I opened a new motherboard.

Yes it is micro atx once you start your build you will run out of room very quickly.

A user on NewEgg mentioned that this does not fit into a standard 19" rack as is too wide. Is this correct? I have seen no other bad reviews with this

I have this case in a Norco R4-15U rack and it fits perfectly.

need a 2U, 19" rackmount chassis with a depth of 27" - 30"  Can you provide?

This chassis has a depth of 15.5".  It is 2U, but keep in mind that the vent for the power supply is on the top of the chassis, so this unit could not be placed directly under a unit of similar depth.

What is the biggest heat sink will fit in this case?

The case is 3.5" thick so roughly any heat sink up to around 3". Stock Intel or similar would be best. I used Arctic low profile heat sinks in my D-213's

How many 3.5" Internal HDD bays? It says 2 on here and iStarUSA's website but, after looking closely at pictures I see what looks like 4 provisions for 3.5" HDDs

Would this support water cooling?

Accepted Answer

No. It's a pretty tight case just the right size for a micro-ATX build. If you REALLY wanted to water cool it, then you'd have to cut out holes in the chassis to run the loop out of the back of the case. There is definitely no room to mount a radiator.
