Does this work with PC? I know it says phone, but it came up when I searched pc headsets and the jacks should be the same...

Probably not.  It would work only if the PC has a unified plug as found on telephone handsets.  However, most PC's audio panels do not.  So, to use this headset it would have to be modified to accommodate separate jacks for insertion in the "mic in" plug (for the audio out signal) and the "speaker/headset out" plug (for an audio input signals).

Question 2

2.5 mm plug not compatible with AT&T CL4940 answering corded phone.  Is an adaptor required and if so what is model/make etc?

The typical 2.5mm headset traditionally fits some cordless and some cell phones, but not desk and wall phones. Referring to the CL4940 user manual I find this phone does not have a headset jack. You will need to investigate a wired or wireless headset package such as those made by Plantronics, that insert in-line with your coiled handset cord. These are not only expensive but can be cumbersome to use since you have to pick up the handset and lay it aside to use the headset. The least expensive solution is to use a Panasonic (or similar brand) cordless phone with a 2.5 mm jack that will allow mobility throughout the house and the ease of plugging in a headset for hands free operation.
