What it the difference between this product and the g230 besides color and price? If their is none i'm going to go with the g230 since they are cheaper.

I don't have the G230 but I can tell you they rival or beat the sound quality of my sony xb500s. The driver issues everyone reports, I don't have at all for the surround sound. The surround sound is amazing for gaming. It really does make a difference. But I got it for 58.99, I would wait for it to go on sale. Just so you know the surround sound is via a usb sound card that acts as mic/headphone jack converter

How would you rate the sound quality of the mic (1-10) 1 being terrible and 10 being flawless.  Also if you owned a previous headset what was it and how did the mic compare in terms of sound quality?

I would rate the mic at 7. It's not a bad mic, but I personally found that in my environment, the built in noise cancellation was trying to drown out my A/C unit and actually made it so that it was very difficult to understand me over skype. There is no real way to disable this feature to my knowledge. But after messing about with various settings, I found that if I changed the mic's default format(using windows recording devices settings) to 1channel, 16bit, 22050Hz (AM radio quality) it cleared up the issue of me being muffled. Even in this setting, the mic still sounds pretty good, but the annoyance of having to figure it out deserves a bit of a knock to the rating. The only other thing I've noticed is that the mic is very sensitive to higher pitched background noises. My friend over skype could hear certain car sounds that I myself couldn't hear(such as squeeling brakes). Driver wise the mic has no settings other than level. While I do still think the noise cancellation should have some kind of settings to tweak, I'd still say the actual audio quality is decent enough for an attached mic. I suppose it boils down to what kind of application you plan to use it with. VOIP it's serviceable. Recording for youtube or twitch there is certainly worse mics out there. But if you plan to use it for music vocals or something to that effect you definitely shouldn't be looking at a headset microphone.

Yes the USB dongle is standard. You can also just plug into your computers headset jack and not use the usb dongle.

I want to buy this headset. But does it hook up to an xbox 360?

This headset comes with a separate jack for the headphones and one for the mic. It has a converter that turns it into a USB surround sound headset with microphone.  The drivers for the PC are on-line and worked well with my Win-7 64 bit system and demo the surround sound capability, but only in USB configuration.  Without the USB and software, it is just a stereo with mic. headset.

The headset does not (is not made for it) have the connections that typically come with an X-box 360 game-play headset, including separate inputs for chat-2-way and game generated sound.

This is a PC gaming headset. It gives good audio, and is suitable for on-line video recording. It is comfortable for extended game-play sessions.

Hello All, I have this headset, and being a newbie to things, I find that when I got the headset, just today, that when i try playing youtube, it does not play, while i play my Spotify, it works fine. I had the headset working with youtube before, and then it just decided to not work. Help, please? Thanks for answering if you did...

If it works with Spotify, you need to make sure your default sound for your computer is set to the headset. YouTube always uses the default sound when the videos play. Assuming you're using Windows, you right click the speaker icon on your task bar and choose playback device, then go select your headset from the list, also assuming you're using the USB adapter that came with it. Make it the default playback device, and YouTube should play through it. You can also hold Windows Key and hit R, then type "Control Panel", hit enter, then go choose Sound. It brings up the same options for playback devices. Still assuming you're using a Windows system. Hope this helps!

I've read that this headset only supports 7.1 with the USB dongle attached, which is notorious for being the root of several problems with this head  (Noise Cancellation glitching with VOIP software and causing your voice to die out, sound tearing when you use VOIP, all audio channels suddenly dying out, and background audio not playing through the headset, like trying to play music and a game at the same time)... So, can anyone confirm for me that even with an internal 7.1 sound card, this headset will not function in 7.1 without its own card being attached?

You are correct.  Without the USB dongle attached, the Logitech software will not detect the headset (therefore, no 7.1 audio).  The headset will function like a stereo headset and microphone.  My PC has no discrete sound card, only the onboard Realtek codec that supports 7.1 surround.

Personally, I do not find the USB dongle/card to be a problem.  It has caused no issues since I bought the headset (1 month ago).  No setup issues in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, no trouble playing games by themselves or with VOIP software (TeamSpeak) in the background.  I have not tried playing a game and music at the same time.

I wear glasses so will this headset be uncomfortable with my glasses on?

Maybe. These are over the ear headphones, meaning your entire ear should be covered and fit within the cushions. The cushions will push on your glasses. I guess it will depend on how tolerant you are to that.
