Question 1

How durable are the handle and back straps? My old laptop bag's seams all started tearing out.

I have loaded this thing with over 40 pounds of equipment and have had no issues whatsoever.  I've had this backpack for about 6 months and it has been a blessing every day.  My typical load is my 15.6" Laptop, tablet, phone, PC maintenance tools, software, two very large NIV Study Bibles, my laptop cooling pad, external mouse...you get the idea.  I'm always able to carry everything comfortably and have had no issues with the back straps or even the pockets.

Question 2

The images for the 17.3" RMBP-12001 do not show the Rosewill logo on the front or the media outlet on the top of the bag like the 15.6" RMBP bag. Are these images accurate?

Yes, there is no logos. I recently purchased this exact bag. It is a great bag. I will warn you, this bag is big enough to put a dead body in it. I have personally carried a MSI 17.3 and 2 Sony 15", power supplies for all 3, 2 external hard drives, phone chargers, Ethernet cables, a small toiletry bag, and a chance of clothes at the same time. Must have been close to 50lbs backed. Its huge, but the shoulder straps are really nice and wide. They don't dig into your shoulders like you would think/ expect from cheap book bags. Bag does really well in protecting the computer also.  It has a built in lifting strap at the top, so when you overload it, just make sure you pick up with the top strap and not. Single shoulder strap, or it might rip the stitching. The bag conforms well to my back also, doesn't dig into my sides, and I don't feel sharp corners from my computer punching me in the back with each step I take. I honestly could jot be any happier with this bag. I would expect it to be a lot more expensive than it actually is. Again, this thing is big, really big, so if you want something on the light and nimble side, look elsewhere. Hope this helps.

Anyone know if this would hold a MSI GT70 or any other large 17.3" gaming laptops?

I use this to transport my ASUS G750 and there is even a little room to spare. I love this backpack. It is HUGE though, as you would expect in a backpack for 17" computers.

Question 4

Excuse me in advance if this sounds a bit dumb. Is this backpack also suitable for a 15.6" laptop or will it shift too much so as to be a nuisance or be inconvenient in any way? Can a 15.6" laptop be secured in place even though this bag was designed for larger 17.3" laptops?
In addition to the 15.6" laptop, I intend to keep some books and a laptop cooling pad in it. Thanks.

My 17.3 fits perfectly with no wiggle room and its one of the Asus g74sx giant ones so if you have a standard 15.6 thin laptop it will be a tad loose in the designated laptop pouch. However there are a lot of pockets so i don't see why you couldn't just use the next pocket down and throw a spate short on with and use the laptop area for books instead, with all the padding the laptop would be protected from the books.

However as i said the designated laptop area would be to big for a 15.6 without shoving something In with it. Space wise tho i have my headset, laptop, three books (large), mouse, keyboard, joystick, Xbox controller, mousepad, and still have room to spare..... lol

This backpack is very large. I carry two laptops, a Microsoft Surface in it, along with some clothes and toiletries when I fly. I don't have to check luggage and my electronics are with me throughout my trips. It can get very heavy, though, especially if you stick water bottles on the side pockets and throw in some snacks and of course an iPod and cell phone.

What material is the backpack made with?

It's a durable nylon/poly blend I believe. I put 30+ lbs in it on a regular basis and it's holding up just fine. Best laptop bag I've ever owned.

Question 7

Has anyone been able to use this as "personal item" carryon on an airplane in addition to your regular larger carryon? I usually travel on small regional aircraft on the way to the hubs.

I fly with this quite frequently. You'll have a hard time passing it off as your small carry-on, especially on regional planes. On smaller planes, I've actually had to gate check it.
