Hi jay the pan that comes with cooker is 8" on the bottom and 11" at the top. You could easily go an inch or two more fore both of thous. the pan that comes with the cooker is made with very thin metal and is rely only suitable for boiling. It will have hot spots ans scorch when frying, sauteing, or working with delicate sauces. To check if a pan you want to use with a induction cooker will worke, see if a magnet will stick to it. If it sticks it has enough iron in it for the induction to work. I like the cooker. It has plenty of power, and can cook by power level and cooking temperature. Nathan

About three feet. We bought it use a couple of time and wife said this is fast but useless. We store in the closet. We have not use it again.

Does the unit come on when turned on and not just when there is a pot on the unit when you turn it on?

The magnetic induction only heats the pot, so the unit is always cool even when the unit is on. The only heat from the surface is what transfers from the pot by conduction, so only 200 F to 350 F. Not the 1000F + that you would normally get from a heating element. It also cools fast.

Most of these turn themselves off automatically after about a minute or less from removing the pot.

Also the pot is very thin and is only suitable for heating liquids. No Frying or sauteing.

Yes, unless it is stated as refurbished.  The cooker does not include a cookbook for induction cooking so I suggest you read up on how to cook with induction cooking. Pay particular attention to temperatures recommended for various foods especially frying temperatures.  It works extremely well with cast iron cookware and heats up very rapidly with excellent digital temperature control.

is this the unit that heats only under the pot or pan and the rest of unit stays cool to the touch?

It's Much faster than a microwave, Yes the rest of the unit is cooler than an average stove.

I have purchased 2 units over time. it works like a charm, did very well in everyday use!  I am actually looking into getting a larger average induction stove with oven, replacing my regular gas stove.

Does not work on all types of stainless steel pots! Enameled steel, cast iron & any magnetic surface.

Hi, I just purchase an induction cooker about a week ago. Used it for the time and it work put the second time it keeps reading E1. I used the pot that it came with. It keeps beeping then turns off automatically. How can I solve this?

According to the users manual E5 can indicate a short circuit. Here is their answer for what to do.  "When showing E0, E3-E6, please contact Technical Support contact info is in your manual, or go to the Rosewell web site for assistance." 
I'd guess you have a defective unit and I would not use anymore until you have talked to Tech Support

Can you use this with a pressure cooker?

Yes, provided it is compatible with induction cooking.  Many pressure cookers are cast aluminum which will not work with induction cooking.  If you get a pressure cooker that is designed for induction cooking, it should work fine.

Minimum pan diameter?

I have used a small sauce pan with no problem. This is about 5-6" diameter. Things like butter and water are melted and boiling quick.

The "free" pot was worth what it cost and was quickly retired. It may have lasted longer without my learning curve, but I burned and warped it cooking sausages. Once those hot spots developed it was over.

The cooking unit itself is wonderful. I love it and use it instead of my cook top most of the time. Realize, the heat you set it on is the temperature it will be nearly immediately. So don't start out too high, walk away if it should be kept stirred or turn it on with an empty pan -  or you will head straight into smoke zone. And when you turn it off, it stops cooking, period. Cool tool. Great buy.

Question 10

This is an Alton Brown type question. I want to use this in a carboard smoker. I can't use a regular hotplate because the heat safety setting shuts it off when it starts to smoke and won't maintain the temperature. Can I use this to smoke?

I have not used the Rosewill Induction Cooker as a smoker- only for cooking soups and stews.  I don't know if there would be anything to prevent it, since the unit itself does not get hot as a hotplate does, however.  The way the Induction Cooker works is to heat the metal pan (and it does have to be magnetic, or else it will not heat up- I have several pans that I think are aluminum and don't work on the Induction Cooker).  Even when the pot is at a boil, the surface of the unit only has some heat radiated out of the pot, but you can actually touch the surface without getting burned.
