will this cord work with windows 8? some of the chip sets in these are not compatible with windows 8

I don't know. I connected it to a dell r510 server and dell switch 5348. It did not work. Straight serial cable was fine. If fact, I can't get usb to serial cable to work for any of my Dell switches (11 units). Never got this cable to work, but could be Dell compatibility issue. No experience with win8, sorry.
