Can i use this cable to to convert from laptop HDMI output to monitor DP?

No, it is not possible. You can only convert DisplayPort signal output (from the video card) into HDMI input signal (for the monitor). Converting HDMI output signal into DisplayPort signal is significantly more complex because of DisplayPort packet data nature, and there are no such converters that I know of.
