Does it mute out the outside sound, and does it have great surround sound?

It doesn't necessarily mute outside sounds altho the surround sound is very magnificent and just about worth buying this headset for it alone, the surround sound submerges you into the music/game etc so much that you get lost into the moment the whole time you are using it.It drowns out outside sounds in a sense so you don't really have to worry about much of anything disturbing your enjoyment of this awesome headset.

Can you hear your own voice through the headset?

No, I typically use this headset with Discord and when I talk I do not hear myself. I've also used the headset with a couple other chat programs and I have never heard myself.

how is the suround as far as positioning for FPS gaming? im looking for a pair like these with optical to replace my old astro A50's.

I actually owned a pair of A50's before I got these 800's. I'll be straightforward, there's no comparison, the 800's make the A50's look pathetic. The surround sound is a good bit better than the A50's, but the real kicker is the actual sound quality which is far better than the A50's. I mainly use the 800's for battlefield 4 and music, so it was easy for me to see how much better they were once I put them and got on the battlefield and used them to listen to music on my phone or tablet. For $250-$300 these headphones were worth it.

No, I don't believe there's anywhere to plug a cable in. It does come with 2 batteries and they are very easy to change and last for at least 6 hours on a charge.

It has multiple inputs (Line/USB/Optical). Not sure if you're asking to play these simultaneously, but you can switch between them with the base station via profiles.
