Question 1

Will this case fit and work well with a micro-atx motherboard?  Product says it fits e-atx mboards, and doesn't mention anything else.

It has the usual universal mounting points for varieties of motherboards. I'm using a tiny motherboard in mine, and the only issue I have is the chassis fan connectors weren't long enough to reach the motherboard. The stock ones are obnoxiously loud anyway though, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace them anyway, and that kills two birds with one stone.

Question 2

How loud is the PSU that comes with the unit? I'm looking to use this for a NAS, but until I get out of an apartment it won't have a dedicated room/closet/basement.

The power supply is not super-silent, but it is not nearly as loud as a 1U server fan for example.  There are 4 chassis fans in addition to the PS fan.  They run very slowly after it boots.  I guess your fan noise would also depend on your BIOS settings.

When activity is high,  like when it is mirroring, the chassis fans increase speed and it is noticeably louder.

I use it as a server, with 2 SSD's and 4 WD drives.  My motherboard is not a server MB, so maybe it doesn't run the fans very high.  Overall I think it's pretty quiet given what I have in it.

Question 3

Are the drive bays meant for traditional 3.5in drives or SSDs?

The drive bays are 3.5", so they're meant for traditional HDDs. I also have an add-in 2.5" hot-swap bay in the 5.25" bay, so it is possible to use both in this chassis.

Question 4

Does this chassis support a mini ITX board?

It only says E-ATX which is much larger.  While your holes in the motherboard may not line up for all, you may be able to get 2 or 3 to line up and thats all you really need.
Just make sure you dont ground out the board.

I need to install a DSS into the removable drive bays, what is the adapter that I need?

Not sure what a DSS is, ;-) but if you mean SSD then we are using 3.5 in drives, so our answer is only a guess...The hot swap drive bays come with what looks like a plastic adapter that might work as an SSD adapter.

However, you will have to break off the end of the plastic adapter (it looks like it is designed for that) so the SATA plugs can be exposed to plug into the hot-swap backplane.  Also, the plastic adapter only has "dimples" where the normal SSD mounting holes would be, so you would have to drill those out with a small diameter drill bit.

In our situation we are leaving the plastic adapters in place in the empty bays so the incoming cool air will not all be pulled in through an empty bay.

FWIW, a quick search brought up a NewEgg item that might work for you without having to modify these plastic adapters.
