Is the pack padded? it looks as if it is from the pics.

Hi Dutch, this bag is lightly padded. I bought this bag due it's light weight. Bag is spacious and material looks durable. I find it good for occasionally carying a laptop or tablet.

is it waterproof or water repellent?

The material definitely gets wet and takes time to dry out but the items inside seem to stay mostly dry. Perhaps damp is the word. It is by no means hiking quality rainproof but would be fine for commuter level of use. I have been using it in rainy Washington State.

Question 3

Could this backpack fit a large towel and a set of clothes (dress shirt, underwear, socks, dress pants, belt)? If so, how much extra space is there beyond being able to hold that?

It could easily hold all of that and as pair of shoes. But it loads from the top and top has drawstring. More like a duffle bag. You could probably slide a tablet in the back too. That said I would NOT get it for what you are saying  access to everything is thru the top except for tablet slot. It is good as a bag to carry loose items in  because of the limited access.

I think there are better choices for clothing or even as briefcase

What is the largest laptop that will fit in the laptop slot?  If unsure, then what are the dimensions of the inside of the laptop slot?

Should fit a standard 15 inch laptop. Use for iPad and Android tablet. But it doesn't provide the padding you would expect.  It's flimsy back pack . great to throw some stuff in like change of clothes and some trinkets but if you drop it may get damaged.

Question 5

I have an Alienware 15" and I know that Alienware laptops are on the bulky side. Would the computer fit into this backpack?

A dell 15.6 just makes it, so if it's truly 15.6 too tight. 15 ok. If it's high value get something with more protection.
