Question 1

Can this be used with a PC?  Is the cord a USB?

Yes, this can be used with a PC. A switch under the bottom can be selected to PC mode or PS3 mode. The cord is USB coming from the flight stick. The throttle is attached to the flight stick via cable that cannot be removed but is long enough to detach the throttle from the stick.

can the throttle be on the other side?

Accepted Answer

It can, but not cleanly. You can detach the throttle from the joystick and then reposition it on the other side, but then it is in two pieces connected by a wire that runs underneath. So it would likely work if you are resting both pieces on a table, but if it sitting in your lap it would be unwieldly. Also, note that the grips are molded for your left and right hands so trying to use the throttle with your right hand means the thumb buttons are out of reach.

Question 3

From the images it appears that the two units are part of a single base. 
I was wondering if anyone had issues with the two controls being too close together and interfering with each other?

Hey,

The two do separate and are connected via a wire. The length is just enough for me to fit my Microsoft SideWinder X4 keyboard in the middle of the joystick and Throttle. so If I had to guess it is probably 20 to 22" apart once you separate them.

Question 4

I have never bought anything like this before, so I was curious as to whether or not the joystick has a button that would allow me to control where my pilot is looking?

Most sticks have a button called "hat switch" or "top hat". On the pictured stick the button is on top and left, to be controlled with your thumb. It can be pushed laterally around in a 360 degree circle. 
Most applications (flight sims, etc.) make use of it's capability to allow you to shift your view as though moving your head. Some even allow looking up or down as well. 
 It is important to know that this function is application dependent. In other words; the application must have that feature as part of the programing or it will not work.
It has become pretty standard for apps to include this function.
Sometimes you may have to use the sim or game settings to establish the function.
The Thrustmaster pictured is a solid well priced product. Enjoy.

Is this wireless?

Not wireless.  There's a nice, long cable that connects to your PS3 or PC.  There is also a wire between the joystick and the throttle.  It's made to sit on either side of your keyboard, or you can play with the two parts hooked together.

I highly recommend this joystick even if it's not wireless.  I use it primarily for Elite Dangerous and it's absolutely fantastic.  If you're using it for that game, I suggest doing a google search for 'Crab Thrustmaster profile'.  It's a custom binding used with this joystick that works great with Elite. You can of course go back and fine tune it.

Does the stick have a twist function? Z axis?

Yes,

The stick does have a Z axis function.  Funky, it isn't mentioned in the actual features but, trust me, it is there and I've played enough Star Citizen 'Arena Commander' to know.  Though, one warning, you will have to tweak the sensitivity in whatever game you elect to play being that this puppy doesn't come with it's own software suite.

I have an Apple MacBook Air.  Is this product compatible with my laptop?

How long is the cable between the two bases when pulled apart? I have a razer Lycosa keyboard which is extra wide wondering the reach on the link cable.

About 18 inches. I mounted mine with velcro to a folding TV table that sits in front of my keyboard. that way it is easy to move out of the way when not in use.

Does this stick work in a USB 3.0 slot? Or is it 2.0 only?

Yes USB 3.0 is backwards compatible. It will just be limited to the 2.0 speed of the stick, which in this case is nothing to worry about.

Question 10

I am buying this for Elite Dangerous, so I am wondering if anyone has tried using it for that game and if it works well with it.  I heard bad things about the dead zones so I am also wondering how bad are they?

How far apart can you get the throttle and stick?

Yo bud I use this for Ed and it's great.  You can separate the stick and throttle about 3ft, and you can turn the one axis button green to allow the rudder to be on the stock, and use the throttle slider be your side thrusters. I have no issues
