Question 1

Is this TU-P1284 (Version v1.xR) or TU-P1284 (Version v2.0R)?  On the TRENDnet site the v1.xR is blue and compatibility with Windows 7 is NOT listed.  The v2.0R is white and compatibility with Windows 7 is listed.  On the newegg site the cable is white but compatibility with Windows 7 is NOT listed.   Although newegg shows a white cable, the safest bet would be to assume that the cable is NOT windows 7 compatible.   Compatibility with Windows 7 is needed.  Has anyone tried this cable with windows 7?

You might need to down load a driver at Trendnet for versions of Windows ME/98SE. 
The version listed is 1.1 for USB connection on your machine.

This was loaned out to a person with old printers who purchased a new machine with Windows 7.  The old printers did not want to work at first but the photo printer and Windows 7 are now working.  Drivers for the printers are either available for new operating systems from Windows or the Manufacturer.

Is the parallel end of this cable a female connection?

I would call it a male end. It's the end that plugs into a printer connection.
