how long is the wire?

It's actually a pretty long length. I'd say something like 6 - 8 ft (maybe longer? I have mine wrapped up it doesn't move from where I taped it) I'm having a hard time visualizing it. You shouldn't have an issue if your PC or whatever device is moderately close to you.

Is there a push to talk or mute switch on this item? If not do you know of one that does?

No, but this mic is the best mic I've ever owned. Most voip programs have ways to bind keys to mute the mic. It also works very well if you own a nice soundcard and high quality headphones like sennheiser's most of which don't include a mic.
