What add-on USB 3.0 card or NEC chip is this compatible with?

I talked with a Support guy at BLACKMAGICDESIGN and here is the deal:

The USB 3.0 host controller needs to be NEC or Renesas to provide the required bandwidth.

It is best if the MB has the NEC or Renesas USB 3.0 host controller built in. But if not, PCIe cards are available (NEC or Renesas) to allow the external shuttle to work.

Question 2

Will this work with an Asus N61j Notebook computer?  I'm hoping to use it with Wirecast or similar live editing software.

I tried it with my Asus N71j and did not have any luck. Supposed to be the right chipset for USB but according to support, it is a very "iffy" product.
I also bought a special USB card for my desktop and still had problems.
I suggest looking for something else, not USB 3, there are other companies that make this same box, do not use those either.

Question 4

Does anyone know whether this would work on a Macbook pro mid 2012 with 8G ram, i7 2.9Ghz, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB?
I've read it requires specific hardware but I haven't been able to find any hardware requirement for Macs. 
I planing to buy this for transcoding vhs tapes to high quality files to later edit in Final Cut Pro.

It will work with those specs, but your encoding is definitely going to be slow. I would recommend also purchasing some type of H.264 accelerator like Elegato makes to round out your solution.

It's highly unlikely your dell notebook will work.  The shuttle is designed around one usb controller chipset, renessas.  Research the blackmagic forums to see the thousands of setups that will not work.  The forums are at: forums dot blackmagicdesign dot com.  Do you research before throwing your money in the trashcan on this device.

Question 6

can the unit record HD content from a PVR via the component inputs?  I want to transfer HD recordings from a DirecTV for editing and archiving. I know the Hauppage units can be used in this manner, but they are USB 2.0.  I realize the HDMI has copy protection built into the unit.

I have not tested mine in that capacity, but I CAN tell you that the Intensity Pro certainly can, for I have used it for that very purpose.  I am sure that there will be no problems.  I do warn you to heed the warnings about the USB 3 chipset.  I took a HUGE gamble when I purchased the Shuttle.  It will work on my laptop but not my desktop.  And I had to purchase an additional SSD.
