Are the arms removable?

The arms are not removable. My copy of the chair is now at the local thrift shop. I bought an armless chair that meets my needs infinitely better.

Would this be good for someone 5'6"?

Im 6'1" and my head sits just above the top of the chair so at 5'6" it may be a bit high but should still fit you just fine. I also find the chair very comfortable sitting for prolonged hours.

weight limit on the chair?

I weigh 190 and the chair constantly slowly goes down as if the lift mechanism is failing. Don't buy one.
