using windows 8.1, will dcp-8150dn or dcp-8155dn be compatible and what is the difference between the machines?

They are both compatible. The main difference between the two is the document feeder. On the DCP-8155DN the machine will automatically scan both sides of a 2-sided document. Both machines will print 2-sided documents.
