Hi, is this compatible with Windows8?

I don't have Windows8, but the answer from Brother is "Yes." See their support page: [link not allowed; you'll have to navigate in solutionsbrothercom and enter model number] BTW, I've had two Brother laser printers; their OS support is excellent. They provide non-bloated drivers/software on Windows/Linux/MacOS for those of us who care to keep it lean. The only missing thing is Firmware update from Linux. These printers support a few printer languages including Adobe-Postscript emulation. (They call it BR-Script.) So they'll work with widely-available Postscript drivers.

Can this printer print directly on non-standard sized envelopes, such as the ones that often come with greeting cards? My current printer is incapable of doing so but my previous printer was able to.

I didn't ask about #10 envelopes, which is a standard size. I also didn't ask if it could print on DVDs. Please, people, don't answer unless you actually know whether it can print on NON-STANDARD sizes or not.

LCD display lit but blank on Brother HL-4570 CDW? Everything still works but?

Probably a poor cable connection. Since the printer is not 100% functional, I would request a return for replacement, at their expense, if less than 30 days old.

how many pages is the blank ink cartridge rated for?

I believe the standard cartridge, TN310BK, is ~2500, and the high-yield cartridge,TN315BK, is ~6000.
