Will this work with a Mac?

Yes it is compatible with Mac OS X (10.5-10.9) you can find correct driver software at Brother's website.

does this printer have faxing capabilities?

Yes it does have faxing cap[abilities. It truly is an All-In-One device and does it all extremely well. Just like every other Brother printer i've owned it has wordked flawlessly since it came out of the box. Was extremely easy to setup wirelessly and  even works well printing from multiple different mobile devices. It syncs scans and copies with Evernote and Dropbox (as wel;l as many others but those are the only 2 I can actually confirm) flawlessly. The only complaing I can come up with is the lack of being able to scan a large stack of papers at once.

Question 3

I need to know two things. Do you think this printer is noisy compared to other printers you have used or owned in the past?

The ink seems to be long lasting. Are the cartridges reasonably priced compared to what you have used in the past?

The printer is a little noisier than my last one as it starts printing, but it's not ear piercing and no big deal to me.

I have not had to purchase cartridges yet, however, when I researched on line, they were somewhat less than what I was paying for my previous ink cartridges. The reviews all stated they lasted a long time, so one would have to take that into account when comparing price.

Question 4

Can you print/fax, etc if the ink cartridges are low? For example, certain other printer brands won't allow for printing when ink is low.

I really can't answer that yet as my ink cartridges are still at least half full! I have done a reasonable amount of printing and am amazed at how much ink is supposedly still there. I previously had an HP that would have emptied the standard cartridges a long time ago and possibly an XL too. I have never had one quit printing when it was getting low, the print quality just went to heck. I gave up on a relatively new HP as every time the black cartridge had to be replaced it wouldn't print and then suddenly would start. The last time at about 20 months it just died so I bought the Brother and have been completely happy with it.

Do the media card slots accept the "XD" type?
