YES, IT CAME WITH THE TONER AND DRUM. I WOULD RECOMMEND PURCHASING ADDITIONAL TONER BECAUSE IT IS STARTER TONER AND IT WILL ONLY LAST A SHORT TIME. THE REGULAR TONER LAST SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER.

how fast is the scanner?

It seems pretty fast to me.  I didn't time it but it handled a 96 page document while I watched. I don't know if it could be any faster.  The best part was that it didn't pull multiple pages even though the stack was pushing the tray capacity.  With some settings tweaks I got the file size down to less than 400K as a searchable PDF.

A similar Brother MFC I had before had a problem with pulling multiple pages requiring that I stood by for every single scanning job.  Ouch.

My office counter space is 19 inches to bottom of cabinet. Will there be enough room for the printer to function?

I would give this at least 2 feet in order to leave space to open the scanner lid or to fully use the document feeder.

Question 5

Does this allow for a second tray for legal paper?  Does it automatically select page.

You open up the multifunction tray and put in 15 or 20 legal papers and it pulls it from there, works really good!   We love it, it is a workhorse and has very little maintenance.   We actually have a 2nd one because the 1st one lasted over 3 yrs for the price you cant beat it!
