He ain't heavy... he's my Brother7/2/2018 4:24:09 PM
Pros: Ordered it on Wednesday, had it in my hands Saturday. Well designed, built solid, nice large easy-to-follow intuitive LED operating screen, and handles 11x17 paper easily from either drawer (I chose the bottom one). I ordered OWS replacement ink cartridges from NewEgg at the same time and they also arrived on Saturday. However, the cartridges Brother includes with this printer weigh the same as the replacement cartridges and have stickers saying the Black unit is 3000 pages while the colored units are 1500 each which leads me to believe Brother just gave me "full" (ie not crippled) starter cartridges and not those low dosage starter cartridges only good for a 100 pages. The Firmware update was super easy to install. Comes with a full version of PaperPort from Nuance which is a nice touch/extra on the deal. Windows 7 64 bit installed a Brother printer driver (with bother logo) before I had even had a chance to install the software on the Brother CD. The Win 7 furnished driver worked good but I wanted the Brother scanner driver so I installed the Brother written full package less any Fax drivers/software. I think the last fax I sent was 14 years ago. Who faxes any more? Prints fast with good color, no skips or fades. Wakes up quick and starts the first page super fast.
Cons: Nowhere in the paper instructions does it tell you how to install the ink cartridges. You have to turn the printer on and follow the very clear instructions on the LED screen... in the end, it was a piece of cake. I get sick when I think I spent $4,000 for an Okidata printer in 2007 just so I could print on 11x17 and be the BMOC. This Brother inkjet would have been perfect foe me back then in 2007 and would have saved me $3,700.
Overall Review: Printer comes well packaged in a heavy duty box with nice strong handle knock-outs. If you decide to use a USB cable then get a 2.0 version with the A/B plug setup and plan to "lose" the first 24 inches of cable just snaking out of the printer's interior port before you reach daylight.
