it is ink cartridge. only black and white of course it includes one. which is not full but half way full. which is again normal for printers they come with complimentary half full toner.

Yes this printer comes with a cartridge.  If I recall correctly, it is a trial cartridge so will not last as long as a full cartridge.  My family does not print a lot of things, but since putting this into service 6 months ago, we are still on that trial cartridge.

It has a separate drum which is part number DR630, approximate life is 12,000 pages.

Yes, it definitely can.

It copies, prints, scans and faxes.

i believe the auto sheet feeder takes up to 35 pages at one for scan, copy or fax.

is it Windows 7 compatible?

Yes.  This machine scans very fast.  It replaced an older model for me that wouldn't work on windows 8.  I used this one for Windows 7 and 8.

Can I print from My hand held device (Cell phone) to this printer?

I haven't tried it. It is supposed to be possible but sometime tricky depending on the device. If you have an android device, Brother has an app, which I unfortunately am unable to link but search "mfc,printing, cell phone" got me a good option for the first and 4th slot, both on Brother's website.

I did just manage to add it to the Google Cloud Print in under a minute, and mine is on wifi since I'm stubborn and want my printer 4 more feet further away than the cord will allow. So if you don't want to deal with another app, there is an option.

Can I disable the duplex printing?

When you print  a document, the printer only prints on one side unless you tell it to print on both sides in the settings menu.

Just verifying...this comes with the ADF, right?

yes.  the only problem is that this is not a very pretty printer. I am looking for ways to conceal.it.
