Does this device come Mac prepared?

Yes. I also used the 3TB version as a Time Machine repository (have to set a couple of control panel options first). Until it died 2 weeks out of warranty :(

So it does come with HDDs. All my computer at home runs Ubuntu 14.04 64Bit. May my Ubuntu access this Buffalo NAS? Thanks.

I cannot answer with certainty, since we just have Macs and PCs, but I think it is likely to offer ftp to Linux out of the box. I'm sure it would support other protocols, but some setup could be required.
