The only reason you would need both would be to separate your Wireless G clients and Wireless N clients. Separating the two should make your Wireless N clients operate faster I'm certain instances.

I would use the Buffalo as the primary router and N only AP and the Linksys as the B/G only AP. On the Linksys ou would need to disable DHCP and change the LAN IP. You would also want to set the Wireless SSID's to something different. Like HomeWireless_G and HomeWireless_N respectively. You may also want to limit the wireless operating mode to N only on the Buffalo.

Of course secure your wireless with at least WPA.

Does this router have a built in firewall?   Or do I need an external firewall also?

Yes, there is a firewall in the DDWRT software. There is an option to Enable SPI Firewall, with a bunch of settings under that, and there is also a tab where you can setup VPN Passthrough.

Does this specific model allow replacement of the antenna's? or are they attached onto the router?

Accepted Answer

The antennas are attached to the unit and can not be removed.  They do swivel from side to side and can also be laid flat to fit in a tight space.  My first unit was defective and replaced.  The second unit needs to occasionally be rebooted (at least once a month) as it seems to loose the IP address of my modem. You might think of another brand or model.
