Question 1

My daughter's computer stopped working. We had an acquaintance's son fix it. He said it was the power supply and put one in for us.  When we hooked up the computer, the power light came on but would not go off. Nothing would come up on the monitor. Now he claims the motherboard is fried. Would this adapter allow me to pull files off of the dead computer? I'm not sure the power even comes on now.

Yes. I've tried the adapter on both 3.5" and 2.5" IDE drives.  I haven't tried it on a SATA drive but I'm sure it will work the same.  The drive normally pops up similar to the "Mass Storage Device" that you get from an usb jump drive or an external harddrive.  The electronics inside the adapter are the same as external harddrive "enclosure" without the shell.

If your old computer had a user name password login you may run into a problem with permissions.  Please see below link for the solution.

btw.  don't loan out to your friends.  it works so well that you never get them back.  I owned 3 but only have 1 left.

Can I use this with Windows 7 successfully?

Yes yous should be able to. I have been able to on several different machines that all run in windows 7

Does this adapter come with the AC power adapter ?

Yes, it includes a power adapter with a molex connecter that can be plugged directly into a 5.25 drive or into the bytecc adapter to power sata devices.

Will this work with old Seagate Barracuda IDE drives from the early 2000s WITH Windows XP already on said drives? Also some old laptop 2.5" SATA HDDs.

Yes this will work with Classic IDE Drives. Will it boot from them? No. Can you pull files and data from them? Yes. Will you be able to run programs across the interface? No.

Will it work with Old Sata 1 drives from laptops? Yes. However, it will not work with Laptop IDE's.

Will i need to use a ribbon cable when connecting an ATA drive?

No. Depending on size, it plugs into either the top or bottom connector. SATA is on the side.

Will this work for Windows 10?

as far as I know it should as win 10 has all the drivers you will ever need, I am bsck to win 7 and it works really good on this os, did not like the fact that I had no say in what was and what was not down loaded onto my puter with win 10 so went back to win 7, just was not that much advantage with win 10.
I really do like this IDE/SATA adapter, thinking about seeing if this would work with a IDE ribbon so I could hook up two drives at the same time, lol

can this work for Seagate 4 gig IDE drive? Also, how do I get power to the Seagate drive?

I have not found a drive (10 mega bite drive to a 2 Tb drive) of any kind that I have not been able to read with this adapter, you might have to change sequence of plugging things in, just experiment, but double check that all plug's are inserted the correct way.
As to powering the drive, the power adapter comes with it, read instructions first, then read them again, no problems at all, just use common sense.
This adapter works great, good investment, recommended

Will this work with a TOSHIBA DT01ACA050 500GB?

I have to tell you I didn't try and use the  BYTECC BT-300 USB 2.0 to IDE / SATA Adapter for weeks after it arrived and when I did it would not work at all, I tried it on 5 different hard drives and would not work on any of them. Because I had it so long before I tested it, I did not try to return it. It could be just a bad unit.

Hello everyone and thanks for any input.  I have both a 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drive with windows 10 OS.  They are not connecting to the computer or laptop that I own ( both windows 10 ).  However 3 older drives that I own, 1 SATA 2.5" and 2 IDE drives all work wonderfully with this Bytec-300 adapter.  Is the problem i am having related to being windows 10? ( the box states that it is good with Windows 7, vista, XP, 2000, ME, linus, and Mac...)

Hi John T,

I believe the problem you are experiencing is due to a compatibility issue between this device and Windows 10.  I personally own this product and have had no issues connecting drives to either Windows 7 or Windows XP Operating Systems. I would check the Vendor's website and see if there are any drivers available for Windows 10.

Question 10

I just received this in the mail after ordering it online. When I got home, I tried to hook it up to one of many SATA drives I have. No matter the order I hook it up and try it, it does not spin the drive fast enough and is not recognized by windows. I believe it to be a power failure as I can hear the drive start to spin, but it does not power all the way up. I would chalk this up to a faulty drive, but it has done the same thing on 4 different drives. What gives?

That is very odd. I own this very same item and I have 0 issues with any drive operating. Is the drive above 7200 RPM? If so, that may be why. I have not hooked up anything faster than 7200 rpm myself... If your drive is 7200 rpm or slower, then I would say it is a power issue within the device and should RMA for a replacement.
