have an xls dell desktop;want to connect the monitor cable to my laptop to use monitor. The connector is not on my laptop so need an adapter that will fit the one I have with usb cable attachment so I can use the new monitor with laptop.There are two seperate sets of prongs of nine;space in the middle,then a small - to the right. Are you familar with this connection? I took photo if you need.

the connector you described is dvi any radio shack,or computer shop should have one

Is there a switch to change between inputs?

It has the application like you are plugging in a printer to tower....I would not know where the switch would be. Got unit at a estate sale with no info. Great graphics and nothing on it only used for games.
