Is this what I need to be able to have multiple capabilities out of 1 HDMI outlet on my Television ?

I used it to direct output from two different sources (Apple TV and my cable box) into a singe HDMI input in my TV. It did the job, although I could never get it to automatically switch from the inactive to the active device without using the remote control or the switches on the device.

Is this device compatible with Chromecast?

The site states: "Chromecast works with devices you already own, including Android tablets and smartphones, iPhones®, iPads®, Chrome for Mac® and Chrome for Windows®. Browse for what to watch, control playback, and adjust volume using your device. You won't have to learn anything new."
