Can it scan  12" x 12" scrapbook pages?

It's limited to standard 8.5x11 or so.

What you can do is scan sections of the 12x12 (making sure you scan beyond the overlap/joining sections) , align them in a 'photo shop' like program and then merge the layers so you have one full sized 12x12 file.

Is this compatible with Windows 8?

It is compatible with Windows 8.  I bought it to replace a Canon that was not compatible.  The software interface is different and seemed a little cumbersome until we found "One-Click Mode"

Will it produce editable text documents?

I had not tried to edit until this inquiry - found I could not.  I did some research and found several web sites for free PDF edit program but cannot post here, so do your research.  Adobe has a program that can be purchased for editing.

I really like the ease of use for this scanner.

can I scan 8.5 x 14 documents?

Regarding question as to scanning 8.5 x 14 documents, the glass face plate is only 8.5 x 12.  So, answer is NO.  Otherwise, it's been a great, reliable flatbed scanner.

Can the LiDE210 scan to .JPG and .BMP file types?

I know the Canon LIDE120 scans in the jpg format - not sure about bmp, but then a bmp files consumes more hard drive space than a jpg file, because of all the additional data saved, relating to color variations, etc. Perceptibly - to me - I cannot generally tell the difference between the look of a bmp image and a jpg image, so I use jpg. You may have other reasons for using the bmp format, and if so, then you will want to make sure that the Canon LIDE120 can save images in that format. I'm home right now, so I cannot check the choice of image formats on my Canon LIDE120. I hope this helps.

I collect and sell obsolete  currency and banknotes. 
Is this item capable of scanning these? I understand some scanners
will not copy money. The bills I will be scanning are mostly Civil
War era and twenties and thirties era US currency. Thanks!

I bought this scanner for portable scanning of photos with my laptop. I was disappointed when it gave inconsistent color accuracy. In one case it was way off! A gold color in the picture appeared quite red.

I also found that if you want to scan at high resolution, you have to use the "driver features" instead of their user friendly automatic mode. Scanning at high resolution (like say 800dpi) is very slow.

For these reasons, I wouldn't recommend it for scanning of currency, which I assume you would do at high resolution.

yes.  In fact, it appears to be plug and play with 8.1.  I have this primarily installed on a Windows 8 computer using the included software, but the other day I was able to plug it into a Windows 8.1 computer and it was picked right up with no additional software needed.
