Can I connect to this printer wirelessly or via USB? I checked the Canon site and was not able to find any indication either way..

not wirelessly, u must use the USB cable to connect, this model has no wifi function, hope it helps

Does it come with a regular cartridge (2000+ pages) or an introductory one that is only good for about 200 pages?

Every printer comes with an intro cartridge - it's how they can afford to sell a printer like this for $150.

Go online and get aftermarket toner (and tool to make a hole in the cartridge) and remember to get the chip - it's an easy install.  
It costs about $9 per refill all in.

It's a great printer... my office uses them exclusively.

Can you fax thru the internet? do not have a landline phone

Yes, according to the instruction manual, I believe that you can, but I have not used that feature. To double-check contact Canon Customer Support at their printer support web site. I am prohibited from posting a link to their web site.

To see how to send a FAX through the Internet, go to Canon's printer support web site and download the e-manual named "imageCLASS MF4890dw/MF4880dw/MF4770n e-Manual".

Once you have downloaded and installed the e-manual, open it. It appears as a web page. Go to the FAX icon and click on it. On the web page that opens, click on the words "See "Using PC Fax."" in the second box down. Follow the instructions on the next web page that opens.

Yes.  Used it sending a few times.  Haven't received any faxes, but the instructions seem simple.  Mostly used for copying (excellent, hasn't jammed once on outflow or automatic top feeder - always had problems with prior machines) and scanning (instructions are a little confusing; use it mostly for work-related documents, so need the proper formatting and ability to scan multiple pages through feeder; but once figured out, works great).

A laser printer uses a "toner cartridge" and yes, this does come with a starter cartridge that might not print 2500 pages, but it is substantial. Newegg has several remanufactured and new toners in a wide price range. Now that I'm here I'm thinking of buying my FOURTH printer like this!

DEPENDING ON YOUR SITUATION, YOU COULD USE A 'POWER-LINE' ADAPTER KIT' ....PLUG ONE HALF OF THE KIT INTO A NORMAL WALL ELECT OUTLET NEAR YOUR ROUTER/ETHERNET CABLE TO A ROUTER PORT; THE OTHER HALF OF THE KIT, PLUG INTO A NORMAL WALL ELECT OUTLET NEAR YOUR PRINTER/ETHERNET CABLE TO THE PRINTER NETWORK PORT......THIS WOULD BE A WIRELESS/WIRED COMBO SOLUTION, BUT YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO RUN ANY CABLE OR BE RESTRICTED TO PRINTER PLACEMENT. What are the external dimensions?  I am limited to a height of 12 inches.

How does this printer do with ink supplies. I do quite a bit of printing and didnt want to have to replace toner cartridges every week. About how many pages do you get with toner?

I bought this printer for our small office. I mainly use it for printing emails and such, but also make a fairly large amount of copies each month on it.  I have had my printer for about 6 months and have used 3 toner cartridges so far.  However, I have been using the re-furbished toners and not the Cannon brand.  The refurbished say that they print approx 2100 pages per cartridge just like the original ones.  Other than that, it is a really good printer for the price.  I have not had any problems at all out of it and am completely satisfied with it.

Question 9

Does Apple support this printer?  Canon website says that it's compatible, but there no mention that I can find on Newegg.

Yes. Running the latest (?) OS X (10.8.5).  Had to buy my new Canon, because Canon didn't support my old Canon (which was great for five years) on my new Mac which I had bought to replace a PC.
BTW: New Canon serves my purposes (primarily scanning and printing emails, web items and occasionally lengthly documents from work).

yes and  works  great ..  One missing feature is the 2 side printing and desperately needed for this excellent device..
