although, I am on a Mac and TWAIN has been removed since Mavericks. There are some 3rd party TWAIN bridge components that work for Mavericks and Yosemite, but is not working on El Capitan.

I just use the Canon software to scan and it works fine, so it has never been a problem for me.

How many pages can go through the feeder at any one time?

It's meant to scan pages one at a time, but you can put about 5-10 pieces of paper in the ADF feeder prior to initializing the scan job. (depending on paper thickness, and if any of the pages have been wadded up prior.)  I've found 5-6 to be about optimal, if you 'cram' it too full, you'll just waste time having to open it up and clearing the jam.  It's a great and solid scanner, but if you want to put more in the feeder at one time, I'd suggest the Canon imageFORMULA DR-M160II if you want a Canon scanner.  Other similar styles may also suit the need for higher output/capacity scanning.  Hope that helps!
