will this  work with XP pro and  windows 7?

Works with windows 7, since that's what I have.  The neat part of the whole thing is that it's wireless.  If your home network works with both XP and win-7, then you'll love the printer.  If you have to use USB, you'll still love it. Very sharp, works fine on photos, reasonable on ink.

Question 2

I have a MacBook Air that does not have a CD/DVD slot. Is there another way, besides using the CD/DVD, to install the printer on my laptop?

I have a MacBook Pro ... but didn't need the optical drive to install the printer.  I actually never connected the printer to the laptop.  I used wi-Fi to set up the printer from the printer display panel. My wife and I are able to print from mac and windows laptops... and from our iPads and iPhones... all wirelessly.  If the printer came with a CD/DVD... I never used it.   Your MBA should have no issues printing to this printer - it was incredibly easy to set up - considering we have 7 or 8 devices printing to it wirelessly.

If I took this printer with me on a trip would I be able to print from my ipad while I was in a hotel room?

Yes you could, both thru the app mentioned above by Dan W, but also if you had a USB cable that goes apple to usb2.0/3.0. It w9uld essentially add your device as an external drive, than you could browse your device and print directly from it. This works for apple, android, and windows mobile.

Absolutely. Been using it with windows 8.1 for at least 6-8 months. Also works great with google print, so if you have an android phone, u can print directly from it.

does this have a back loader?

No, this printer does not have a back loader.  There are two cassettes that load from the front.  I keep 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheets in the lower cassette. I have never counted the number of sheets that it will hold, but I would guess it would be at least 70.  The upper cassete I use for 4 x 6 photo paper.

can this scan multiple pages at once, like the way canon mp530 does through an automatic sheet feeder?

There is no document feeder. Single sheet flat-bed scanner only.

Yes, it scans and more quickly than my flatbed scanner and with higher resolutions.  Very happy with the scanner portion.
