will this do double sided printing?

No. This is a very high quality photo printer.  I feel the ink is too expensive for general purpose printing.  If you want a double sided printer, there are much cheaper alternatives for utility use (print, copy, etc), then use the Pixma as a second photo only printer. It is AWESOME at photos!

Are the color ink cartridges individual, or is it one of those color combo cartridges?

There are eight individual tanks, each of which can be replaced independently of the others.  The color output is exceptionally good.

I need to print on paper of 150 lb weight. Can this printer handle that?

I have no idea.  I have used rag paper and museum quality paper.  But not the 150.  It does we'll with all my print jobs.   With the 13/19 prints S well.

How many color  8 x 10's before you need to replace cartridges?

Every printer is different...and the picture quality setting, along with the pictures themselves would indicate how quickly it uses the ink.  I would suggest (as I do this for MY pictures) ....  keep a back up on hand....and have a ready-access to some more...and print away.  Only YOU can figure out what it will cost when you run YOUR types of pictures.
