does this package come with power supply?

Accepted Answer

No it does not. It supplies the needed power as long are you are connecting it to a computer using the larger 6-pin DV connector. If you want to use it stand-alone then you will need to separately purchase a power adapter.

Will this work with a computer that has no firewire port?

Accepted Answer

No but if you have a pci slot or maybe even a pci express slot in your computer you can buy an adapter card with a firewire port that will fit in your computers pci slot. In this way you can use the ADVC110 by hooking it up to the firewire adapter card that you can install on your computer if you have a slot available! Hope I was helpful.

Question 3

Do I need to purchase connection from the device to the computer or is it included?

The unit includes a Firewire 400 6 pin to Firewire 400 6 pin which will provide power to the unit so you don't have to buy the AC adapter. If your computer does not have a 6 pin it will not power on. You can tell by physically looking at the port and counting the pins.

What is the video resolution of the transfer?  Can I use this in Final Cut Pro and expect a high quality image?

I used this with Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate for a job of importing 16 VHS tapes I had home movies on that were 30 some years old. I had to get a firewire card for my PC, which came with a cable. The input into the ADVC110 was S-Video with Composite sound. I can't really say what resolution I used but Pinnacle had several settings for what format to make the file. Oddly enough, I ended up only using Pinnacle to import the movies and create the files because it did a better job of doing that than the software I ended up using to edit the movies with, which was Adobe Premiere Elements. Oddly, when I tried importing the movies with the Adobe software the quality wasn't as good as when I used Pinnacle. I have no idea why? I just tried different combinations and when I found the best quality I used that method on all my tapes. Now I don't have to worry about losing those precious videos as they are all converted. Tried 3 or 4 of the cheaper transfer solutions but none worked as good as the Canopus. The gamble was worth it for me. Hope it works for you.

I will be using this on a 2008 Macbook pro running 10.9.1. Is it compatible?

Gina, I read through the manual and there is no specifics stated for or against old or newer computers. It does not reference being compatible with windows or mac. So long as you are using the connections for any video equipment you have, it appears to be fine. If you still have doubts, my obvious response would be to contact the manufacturer and you will be sure then you are fine. However, I see nothing in the very short instructions that warns against buying this unit to use on your Mac system. Hope this helps you make your decision.

Will this product actually burn a disc or do I also need an optic drive?

No, you will still need an optical drive in order to burn a disk.

This product simply converts an analog stream from a device such as a VCR (via RCA connections or S-Video) to a digital stream that is able to be processed by video editing software on a computer (such as iMovie on a Mac).  It has a firewire 400 port that provides both power to the device and connectivity to the computer.

Once the file is on your computer, you'll need additional software if you want to burn a disk.

Hi can I use this devise to transfer videos from my 8mm sony camcorder to digital dvd?

That is what in using it for. I capture my 8mm video tapes to DV just to get the video digitized and then clean/touch up and assemble with Adobe Premiere to final videos that can be put to DVD.
