Question 1

Can you connect a 5v power supply instead of the USB power?  It appears to have a power port.

Since the voltages would be the same I would think that it would work. The usb power supply has no other functionality besides providing power so if you provided 5v and similar amperage it'll work the same. As you will see the unit will read the drives without the power supply, at least gauging from personal experience as it has worked this way with my dell 17r laptop.

Question 2

I don't see storage capacity on any of the CineRaid devices.  Am I missing something?

These are just enclosures. You have to provide the hard drives for them. They will take a standard 2.5" SATA laptop HDD/SSD.  You can use either a single or two drives in a RAID format.

Can I boot from this ?

Yes,  like other external boot devices,  you may have to tweak the boot order in your setup.  Of course,  you need a Bootable OS on this drive,  as well.  I use this as two discrete drives with a clone of my in computer Hdd in one of these.  In a recent crash,  I was able to boot from it and restore my Hdd in the laptop.

Does this enclosure support USB Attached SCSI (UAS) mode for the fastest USB 3.0 speeds?

Hi Lucas, I honesty don't know. Supposedly that feature was to be supported as of Windows 8. That being said, if the CineRAID has that chipset, which being USB 3.0 one would imagine it would I can't say. I've been using mine since purchased without a glitch. It comes with a second USB power cord that if needed can be plugged in. I  carry a 4000mAh portable USB power pack. Check out the Cineraid website. They have manuals and some newer products. Hope this helped some.

Is this compatible with android?

RAID/JBOD is managed by the internal controller. The device won't care what kind of machine it's plugged into. If your computer can read an external disk, then this disk will work just fine.

If running in RAID 1, is max HDD capacity 2x1TB for 1TB total capacity or 2x2TB for 2TB total?

For RAID 1, I've only tried 2x1TB = 1TB . Works great !

Question 8

How tall can each 2.5" HDD be? Is it limited to standard 9.5mm drives or will it take taller ones as well?

you have to use standard 9.5mm drives or if you choose to use the newer thinner drives that I think are 7mm thick you will have to use a non conductive shim so that the drives do not rattle around and put stress on the sata connectors.  As for the drives that are thicker than the 9.5mm they will not fit.  I currently run two 1TB drives in my enclosure that have my Steam software and games installed on it.
