how good is the range on this device?

We have installed this in a couple of small offices (1500 sq ft or so) and they seem to cover the entire office, even when placed in the very back. I would say the range is average since it doesn't have very high-powered antennas, but adequate for most uses.

Is it fitted. With. PoE?

Mo these devise do not have POE ports.  Though an injector will work just fine.

Is this Device wall mountable?

There are two slots on the bottom to hang it on screw heads. The slots get smaller toward the back of the device, meaning if it is hung vertically, the display on the front will be pointing at the floor.

Do you need a subscription to use the VPN on this router? Want to be able to VPN back home when using free WiFi out and about with my phone and/or laptop instead of paying for a VPN service.

No subscription is necessary for VPN - just an internet connection.  The included Cisco VPN software I had problems with.  I had better luck with the built in Windows VPN connection.  However, you may run into problems if your home internet IP address changes.

Will I have to pay any annual fees with for this firewall?

No. It is just like the standard router with a little bit tighter security.

Is it possible to setup a VLAN over the wired connections (e.g. through a specific port on the router, or some other method)?

Specifically, we have four WiFi access points spread throughout our building for guest access. I want to make sure I can isolate the wireless/guest portion of the network from our wired network, using the already-in-place access points. Is that possible with this router?

yes this router can do port vlan but it sounds like you might want to have your wifi access points do VLAN tagging, which this cisco is also able to do. (I recommend vlan tagging) also for really good wifi products take a look at ubiquity unifi products.

Does this router give better signal strength than the Belkin?

Yes you can turn the gain up and switch channels in the router... it also allows for ACL's.  All web interface no command line.

I have direct tv, att internet and phones, and I HAVE A ROUTER IT GOES THRU TO 5 COMPUTERS.  WILL THIS PRODUCT PROTECT ALL COMPUTERS?

Not sure what you mean by protect. This router doesn't include a firewall,virtual or physical. It's good for settings where you have lots of users, though. We're handling up to 100 at a time.

Does this device have MAC filtering capabilities?

Yes. As well as guest network on a different vlan.

Does the firewall only work for the VPN connection? Or can I use the firewall for non-VPN connections as well.

This is a general purpose router that can be used for a VPN as well as non-VPN connections through the firewall. 
You should have no issues either way.
