Is this completely unlocked and for use with any SIP provider?

Yes I believe it is completely unlocked. When we setup ours our SIP provider flashed different firmware on the device to "lock it down" for their system (with my permission of course).

The SPA112 2-port Phone adapter is an all inclusive device that is programmable through the use of a standard telephone initially and over/through your home/office internet once its local IP address has been established.  There are plenty of guides available over the internet to help with this setup.

What you do need:
 > reliable internet service
 > an account with a VOIP provider ( there are many good ones that are VERY competitive) research the web
> a standard phone instrument or existing house or office phone system OR just use a softphone on your PC
> This unit has sufficient power to ring up to two/ maybe three standard telephones.

Before ordering Cisco Small Business SPA112 2-Port Phone Adapte
I wanted to confirm I can connect this between my (digital VoiP) Charter Cable (ISP) using Linksys router and my analog fax machine? i want to fax with my analog fax machine using my recent 'upgrade' to all digital services from Charter Cable. If this converter will do that, can' I also use the second port for my analog Tivo? thank you in advance. katie

I know nothing about Charter Cable. The way I use this device is to have a broadband internet connection from Time Warner Cable and a Voip contract with PhonePower. The SPA112 is connected to the LAN side of my router and to my telephone wiring. The device can either support a single telephone or fax connection or two such lines. PhonePower charges extra if I have two separate phone numbers as I would need if one port was permanently connected to a fax machine but I can have two separate telephones simultaneously making or receiving calls using the adaptor if they both use the same phone number. What you can do will depend on your voip provider so you really should talk to them or people in their user group, I assume they have one, but the SPA112 seems suitable for your requirements.

Yes, you can use the SPA112 with any SIP provider. We have them installed with several clients that use our SIP Asterisk based managed hosted PBX service. They work well and are relatively easy to set up. Whenever we need an adapter, this is the one we buy.
