Has anyone had confirmed success using this product with Ring Central if not purchased through Ring Central? How does the set up work?

Once connected to the device, in a browser you go to IP Address 192.168.15.1 and type the standard admin username and password (in manual or can be found online)

Can an existing phone number be "ported" to this device? Or am I way off-base to even ask the question?

Whether you can "port" a number depends NOT on this device, but instead on the internet phone service that you use.

I'm not an expert on internet phone options, but to my knowledge you must subscribe to some 3rd party SIP, VoIP or other internet phone service.  I am aware that some providers sell devices which are pre-configured to work with their service, but this device is not like that.   Once you choose a service, ENSURE THIS IS SUPPORTED by the company you go with.   (It's like a cable modem... you can buy your own cable modem but it won't work without an Internet Service Provider like ComCast, etc.)

I subscribe to CallCentric, but it's only one of many.  Yes, they allow you to port your number and their website has a page that you can check if that's possible.  They also have instructions for many devices, including this Cisco device.  It is not too difficult to setup if you can follow their online instructions.

Does this work with Comcast?

Yes, it does work with comcast. Some configuration may be needed for the device, depending out your router settings, but in general it works fine. Requires rebooting from time to time.

Wwill this adapt to a I-phone?

Why would you want to have an RJ 10 wire running from your ATA to your iPhone? You need to route calls to your cell phone through VoIP server, not analog adapter.

Does this work with Google Voice?

It's unlikely that this device will work with Google Voice without significant effort.  This device speaks the SIP protocol.  Most VOIP devices (and VOIP providers) use the SIP protocol.  Google Voice does not use SIP; it uses the XMPP protocol.  (Actually, this isn't true any more.  Google has indicated that it will discontinue support of XMPP for Google Voice in May 2014.)

So at this time, it's unclear what Google is planning to do with Google Voice and VOIP.  They haven't said that they're migrating to SIP, so there's no reason to expect this device to work with Google Voice now or in the future.

There are workarounds, but the topic is too technical for this forum.  You can educate yourself by reading about Google Voice, XMPP, and SIP.

OBi makes nice little VOIP adapters which speak SIP and XMPP, so they work well with Google Voice.

Question 6

So, just to clarify (pardon my ignorance, but I had to start my research somewhere) any VoIP device requires some interface with a telephone "carrier service" - which THEN connects to the main telephone system. Correct?     
A few long-distance computer/internet/business users have [probably] been using VoIP since 5 minutes after they figured out they could - and Cisco was no doubt helping them ..... 
Which is why I'm looking at Cisco's stuff (they've been around a while & know there are other options)

You need a SIP provider of some kind.  Or you can use something like OOMA hub or Telo which is SIP but converts to analog lines for you home.  I have one and works great.  I recommend setting SIP ports in your router as highest priority via QOS - many routers have a VOIP/SIP priority setting too....Good luck!
