Will this transmit audio and video both or do I need a seperate audio cable?

A clarified question:
Some hardware does transmit an audio signal via a DVI style port. (e.g. ATI and AMD video cards beginning with the 3XXX series as well as many late model Nvidea cards.) I'm currently transmitting audio via DVI on three separate machines using an ATI Radeon HD 4830, Radeon HD 4890, and an AMD Radeon HD 6970. All three support audio via the DVI output provided an ATI DVI to HDMI adapter is used. These adapters were included in the retail box expressly for this purpose. 
How is this possible?
An HDMI signal is being transmitted through the DVI port and then through the HDMI cable via the adapter. Because the original signal is HDMI and not DVI, it includes audio interlaced within the digital signal. Some people posit that they use a separate pin-out with some pins dedicated to audio but this is not plausible as HDMI does not have dedicated audio pins. More likely is that the ATI adapter is recognized by the ATI video card which instructs it to transmit an HDMI signal (with audio interlaced) rather than a simple DVI signal.
While there is no question that this works with the aforementioned proprietary adapters, what many people would like to know is whether the Coboc EA-AD-DVI2HDMI-MF will function in the same way and if so, on which hardware. I have read reports of some aftermarket DVI to HDMI adapters passing audio from ATI/AMD cards and am wondering if anyone has had success with this one. Otherwise I'll just spend the extra money for a proprietary adapter.

Will this work the same for DVI-I?

Hi Zach!    I too was confused -- there are multiple DVi types; as Greg suggested, check the Wiki write up.  I did note this adapter is a "DVI-D (24+1)"  There is also a model EA-AD-DVI2HDMI-MF version in which the write-up indicated "DVI-I (24+5)".  At this point I have no idea what either one means, though this one is DVI-D male to  HDMI female and the other adapter I referenced is HDMI male to DVI female.  (The '2' in the model numbers means 'to'.)  Echoing Greg, apologizing
 for not being of more assistance.

will this fit a radeon 5600 series graphics card?

Well if it has a DVI port then yes. all PC components are basically if they look like they can then they should fit don't worry about it, I'm sure... no, absolutely sure that it will work/fit IF THERE IS A DVI PORT. if it looks like it then buy it. it works great!

Question 4

I have an HDMI cable cox and hooking it up to an older Sony TV with a DVI HDCP port.  If I get this and plug the HDMI cable from the cable box to this and then into the TV, will I have audio?  Thank you.

This is a DVI-D adapter which will convert and transport the audio.  But you need to check the TV to see which type of DVI connector it has.

Is this adapter HDCP compliant? That is, if I run an HDMI cable from my computer's video card to this and in turn plug it in to my monitor, will I be able to tune in HD TV channels?

As far as I know, yes, but you won't get audio.  The type of source doesn't matter to the throughput and output, so if your source signal is high definition TV then the output will be high definition TV.  Here I used the adapter to go from HDMI to DVI at the monitor, displaying a pre-recorded HD TV show (via Mythbuntu), and get the same definition as the original.

As I implied at the top, there is no audio in DVI: you will need a separate audio path (cables from the audio card's output to the monitor's audio input, or to a separate audio amplifier).

Question and I think it will but I want to be sure if this would fit my MSI GTX 1070 8GB card, I need it for my second monitor?

The only way to tell for sure is to look at the receptacle on your MSI GTX 1070 8GB card and check to see if there is a small slot that the flat pin would mate with.  If it does, then it will do the job.  Assuming you have the HDMI cable to plug between this plug and your monitor.

My 3D monitor requires a *Dual-Link* DVI-D connection for 3D.  Will this adapter allow me to view 3D content from my blu-ray player, which has an HDMI output?

This is just a pass thru device. There is nothing special about 3D data type, it's just data.  As long as your bluray and monitor can agree on a data rate across one or two or six cables then it'll work - but AFAIK that's highly doubtful since HDMI protocol does not include any such notation on splitting 3D data - so most likely it's a proprietary protocol which makes it unlikely to work with any other devices.
