AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2, and FM2+ all use the same mounting design so yes
on the note of matching mount designs, the LGA 1155 is the same as the LGA 1150

My stock FX-6300 cooler sounds like a jet under load, is this cooler quiet?

I'd prefer for it to be near silent.

Yes, it's relatively quiet. In fact, it all depends on the fans you can put on it. It's capable of holding two. However, the fan that comes with it is sufficiently quiet (I liked it so much that I bought a second one for a few bucks and put it on). The heatsink comes with extra mounts so putting another fan on it easily. The fan that's on it is basically a small (92mm I think?) case fan mounted onto it.

would it fit on a dell dim 4700 motherboard?

It may be tight because this thing is pretty big. The way this comes, you kind of have to put the brackets/pushpins that connect the heatsink to the motherboard on yourself with a philips. This does allow for flexibility for use in different sizes of motherboards. Im thinking it will be a very tight fit inside of a dell case. (unless you have all your cords under control, then it may be a possibility). I think this is more meant for a midsized tower to fit comfortably.

Does this cooler come with its own tube of thermal paste?

It's been so long, I can't be certain, but I don't believe it is Cooler Master's practice to include thermal paste with their coolers. I did not purchase this for personal use. It was for a PC refurbish I did for someone. The higher quality cooler manufacturers like Noctua and Fractal supply their own brand of thermal paste and they are pretty decent. My own preference is now "Tuniq TX 4". It works phenomenally to bring temps down. It can be purchased here at Newegg I believe.

So does this only support 92mm fans or can I put a regular 120mm fan?

If you can get it to fit and have enough power to support a larger fan, I do not see the benefit of changing out the fan, the larger the fan the more likely to have noise.

I personally would not mess with this cooler, It works great the way it comes. Even if you are a gamer.

Will this fit into a redbone u3 case with a Atx motherboard, and r9 280 msigaming graphics card?

The graphics card should  not be a problem,  the cpu sockets are normally away from all the pcie slots.  With the case,  make sure there are sufficient clearance from the cpu socket to the top of the case. Note the cooler is pretty tall,  you will need quite a bit room. But a standard mid tower case like the one you mentuoned should work fine.  You may have to remove the side fan,  but that fan should be removed any way. With this cooler,  it works better with the rear fan working in the same flow direction to push air through the back of the case,  the  side fan may only disturb the flow efficiency.

This is answered in the physical specs.  It is 139mm tall, or 5.47244 inches tall.

Is anyone using this in a micro atx case?

I'm using this in a full ATX case and there's only about one and a half inches of clearance between the top of the cooler and the side of the case. I rather doubt that you could fit it into a micro ATX (unless you're okay with leaving the side off).

The dimensions are 90 x 51 x 139mm, if that helps.
