Question 1

Does it feel comfortable using it in your lap? Does it fit in an average sized backpack?

It will feel much cooler than your laptop being on your lap bare for sure. Be careful of too much pressure in middle of cooling pad, the fan will hit the plastic for it is flimsy. Should fit in any regular sized backpack. Problem is although it supports larger laptops, you cannot keep it secured with a 17" inch laptop. I recommend velcro on the edges(away from ventilations of laptop & cooler of course).

Question 2

Does this fan have a switch to turn OFF the light?  I hate "ambiance" lighting on my products--it hurts my eyes at night.  Or can anyone recommend a product with similar specs that has the ability to turn off the light (or lacks a light altogether?)

No switch for illumination. No easy method to cover the LEDs either. Not sure if it easy to open to make changes. 
Having said that, because the laptop covers the holes, I don't see the light at all when using the laptop. There is no direct line of sight to see the LEDs. Also, the laptop screen is much brighter. If I were trying to sleep in bed, the screen closed or the screen dimmed, then I'd be able to see the cooler light. But that is light reflected off the black bottom of the laptop, so I don't consider it very bright. 
If you can't find a cooler without illumination, you could use a piece of soft foam to block the light from seeping out between the cooler and laptop. The foam used to seal window and door cracks available at hardware stores might work. They have an adhesive backing. Attach it to the cooler around the edges to form a wall to prevent the light from leaking out.

Question 4

Based on review I bought this laptop cooler.  But its making too loud noise.  Can I get a replacement?

I have had no problem with this being to loud at all. I have an illness that requires me to rest alot. I'm able to sit and have my laptop right by my side and I'm honestly not aware that it's there.  I even forget that it is. I am very happy I purchased it.
Will have to wait and see if there is any changes in future.

As far as getting a replacement, you will have to ask what company policies are.
