How thick is the fan? I have a just about a 1/2 inch gap to slide it in. 80X80X?

IT WILL FIT BUT IT MIGHT BE TIGHT. I PUT MINE IN THE BACK OF MY COOL MASTER NVIDIA CASE AND IT FIT THAT PERFECTLY. SO, IF YOU ARE PUTTING IT IN THE BACK BEHIND A CPU IT WILL WORK GREAT.

Selecting a fan for project.  Is this AC or DC?  Voltage?

I'm pretty sure the motor is just a simple DC motor but I'm not sure how that comes into play. They are designed to be powered from a power supply which in turn powers the motherboard header which is where the fan plugs into.

Can this fan be using in a horizontal orientation? (Will it be noisy in that orientation?)

The fan is designed to be placed in any direction you need it or orientation. As already answered, the noise will not increase. Actually this is very quiet fan, you should be satisfied if this is what you're looking for.

Is this a SLIM Fan?

Yes, this is a 15mm slim fan. It is 10mm slimmer than a standard fan.
