Will this be suitable for a "relatively "heavy 15.6" laptop that weighs 6.5 lbs?

I would think that it would be fine I bought mine back in Sept 2013 and love it. It is very quite and the lip on the bottom does not let the laptop slide. My laptop is 17.3 satellite. I hope this helps

What is the exact weight of this cooler? Is it USB powered? The description says for up to 15" laptop. Does this mean it is not suitable for a 15.6" laptop?

I am not sure of the exact weight of the cooler. It is pretty light though. I purchased it to set my Playstation 3 on to help keep it cool. It would probably fit a 15.6" laptop. .6" is not very much larger, you have to think that if the laptop is centered on the cooler it is only overhanging .3" on each side. I do have to say that it is kind of flexible and the heavy old PS3 model will flex it making the fan click against the sides. I presume that your laptop is not as heavy as my PS3. It does an okay job cooling, and it is not very loud. It is also USB powered with an adapter keeping the USB port open and available.

Question 3

Is there a way to disable this USB device so the computer doesn't try to "recognize" it or perhaps a driver one can install for it? When my buddy plugs it into his computer (or starts it up with it already plugged i), the operating system (Windows 8) tries to recognize it again and again and repeatedly fails, each time making than annoying "duh-nuh" sound to tell you it doesn't recognize the new hardwar. This can go on repeatedly every few seconds for several minutes. Not good times.

the os should read it as a general usb device. try looking up drivers on coolmaster's website; however you shouldnt need to. that is a strange issue. mine works masterfully on my wife's laptop. she has windows 8 as well.
