Does it feel comfortable when you place it on your lap when you use a laptop? Does it fit in an average sized backpack?

I just tonight received  this notice from NEWEGG that you had a question. Firstly I have never  placed this on my lap. The cooler would be not stable or comfortable. Your laptop will be in danger to sliding off. On a table it works well and solved the overheating  problems of my 5 year old HP laptop. It was worth the money. It is nice and quiet.
I have since bought a new Dell  i7 Inspiron and a cooling fan is no longer needed because the new computers do not heat up. If you 
want a 'lap dog' in a laptop  save your pennies and get a 'cool' new laptop.

Is the airflow going upward or downward?

Airflow is going upward. I bought three of these for my children last Christmas, and all three are still working flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this product.

my laptop gets heated majorly on the left hand side and in the center, right side is cool, do u think the is the cooling pad for me?

I'll be honest and tell you that I have not used the cooling fan on my CoolerMaster.   I've only used it as a rest for my Dell Precision 6700, a massive 17 inch, seven pound mobile workstation.   As a laptop platform, the CoolerMaster is great.
