I am looking at my ram chips & they say corsair VS512MB400C3 value select , will these do the job for add on 1 gb of ram?

The only difference is that the VS1GBKIT400 has a CAS latency of 2.5 ns versus 3 ns on your VS512MB400C3. The difference is not significant since the new one is slightly faster than the old one, and will run at the same speed. So they are compatible. You need two empty memory slots.

It should work on your Dell. Just check your old ram and make sure it is DDR and the same mhz.
