Question 1

DOes the fan automatically come on when powered up? I'm trying to troubleshoot it. I can't get my PC to power up but I'm getting some indicator lights on the MOBO. I haven't tried my old PSU yet, but I'm not at home either.

Hi Scott,

When a PC is powered on the PSU fan should run along with the hard drive, CPU fan and, if equipped, any case fans.  If these are not running, you may have a bad PSU or the motherboard may have a power distribution problem.  Sometimes using the mobo jumper will reset things.

Does the fan run 100% of the time or only turn on when it needs to?

No actually it only turns on when it needs to. I seriously thought it was broken or something for a while until my Graphics Card comes into play then it turns on, since it's the only thing that really heats up in the case. Best way to see if it's working as it should (when it's needed) is to play a game that pushes your graphics card or any activity that pushes your system in general and depending on your case mine has a window on the side watch and see if the fans start spinning.

There are some additional variables that affect run time.  A few of those are
1. The rated power supply capacity is a maximum.  I assume your system will actually use less than 750 watts - probably a lot less.  Factors such as the number of hard drives, specific CPU power usage, and CD/DVD drive usage will affect system load.

2. Your monitor is powered separately. I assume that is also powered through the UPS.

3. Growth. If you want to allow for expansion in the future, how much?

For example, one of my systems with 7 hard drives, two CPUs with large coolers, and two 24" LCD monitors uses about 315 watts.  I have a 1500va UPS which the monitoring software says will last 15 minutes during a power failure.  750VA appears to get the job done for you based on APC and TrippLite calculators.  1000 to 1200 VA units would allow for expansion and more time in the event of a power outage.

It says only SLI? So no crossfire? Thought they were the same with power connection.

Not sure about SLI or crossfire since I run neither, but I can tell you there are WAY more cables sticking out of the thing than I expected.  So if you are concerned about whether or not there are the power cables you need I am pretty sure it will have them.

This is great power supply.  I must not be taxing it because I'm pretty sure the fan has never kicked on and if it has it is that quiet that I never noticed.

Well this work with HPE-400f? I am also getting the r7 260x

The Corsair power supply "should" work the the HP elite - I say this as I'm assuming like the HP-5750/5850 it's a normal size case (mid/full tower). HP-5750/5850 and the like use the standard and not mini factor power supplies.

Video card is a different beast, I'm using the Nvidia 760 ti, not too sure of the comparison of power consumption between the two however I've not had any issues.
